The formula of shapes

Hi guys welcome back to my blog about my learning but this time it will be based just around maths and what I have been learning because we have goals for everything the goal for this maths workshop is ... Use a variety of strategies to calculate the area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles lets get right into the blog.

So for the workshop DLO we had to find out the formulas for the different shapes the shapes we had to find out were a parallelogram, rectangle and triangle so then we had to make 2 sets of question for every shape and we also had to learn the different formulas for the different shapes I will tell you the shapes and the formula's I learnt this week. The parallelogram's formula is base times height (BxH) so it means you have to times the bottom of the parallelogram but also cut off a bit of the side to find the height and then you would times them together. The triangle is half base times height (1/2 BxH) but there is one change the equation after you have finished multiplying them you have to half you answer witch makes it different to the parallelogram. The rectangle is not base times height (BxH) but it is the length times the width (LxW) so you would have to times the width of the area by the length of the area. In all my learning was the formula of the parallelogram, the triangle and the rectangle. The parallelogram is BxH, The triangle is 1/2 BxH and the rectangle is LxW so now when I go to learn about the area and the perimeter I will know the formula's to work the equation out.

Have you ever learnt about the formula of a shape before?
